Well, it finally happened.
I got the boot.
I saw it coming months ago. The writing wasn’t just on the wall, it was spray-painted in neon. The real kicker was my third annual performance review: a total 180 from the “you’re doing great, love your ideas!” feedback I had been getting all year. Suddenly, I “needed improvement on everything”? Please.
And it wasn’t just me. My coworkers were suddenly getting the same treatment in their one-on-ones, like the company was trying to write a bad script to justify cutting us loose. Spoiler: they weren’t even good at lying.
Here’s the truth: the place is tanking. Management has been steering this ship straight into the ground for years, and now after 35 years, it is finally nose-diving.
So when HR asked to see me at 4:15 on Thursday, the day before my day off and 15 minutes before I was supposed to leave, I didn’t need a crystal ball. And honestly, HR looked more upset than I was. She liked working with me and was shocked when they told her to do the honors. Joke’s on them though, I didn’t even flinch.
They let me and a recruiter go within minutes, then axed the project manager the next morning. Official reason? “Restructuring. Your role no longer fits.” Uh-huh. Okay. Bye, bitches.
At least I got to say goodbye on Teams and wipe my computer. I will miss a few people, the ones who actually worked hard while management played Captain Titanic.
So here we are: new chapter. I have worked nonstop for the past 10 years, and yes, this is literally the worst time for me to lose a job. No savings, no safety net, just vibes. But I will land on my feet. I always do.
And that is what this blog will be about: my journey to getting hired again.
Peace!
